About Basic literacy tutoring

For those adults who grew up speaking English fluently but struggle with basic reading and writing below a 5th grade level, we provide free tutoring that is curriculum-based but individualized and flexible to move and adjust to the student’s pace and learning style. Tutor/student pairs meet for two hours a week at a mutually accessible public location (usually a library).

All of our students are given a placement assessment to determine what level and style of instruction best meets their needs. If you or someone you know needs assistance learning or improving upon reading and writing skills, please contact Ruth Seidenspinner at ruth@lcmcmd.org or (301) 610-0030 to schedule an appointment for a placement test and getting paired with a tutor.
